History
Guillermo Gonzalez has been in the affordable housing industry since 2009 and has been involved in the preservation and development of over 13,500 housing units. As an independent consultant with Gonzalez Advisory LLC, he provides development and repositioning consulting to housing agencies and private and non-profit developers, specializing in HUD’s asset repositioning programs.
Prior to forming Gonzalez Advisory LLC, Mr. Gonzalez served as a Principal at Recap Real Estate Advisors, providing overall strategic advice to clients on recapitalization of federally assisted housing developments, as well as, structuring and managing complex repositioning transactions. He was also a RAD Transaction Manager for the HUD Office of Recap, providing technical assistance to many housing agencies across the country. This role exposed him to all types of transaction complexities and allowed for continued involvement in the ever‐evolving RAD program, where many HUD determinations become rules that are not written in the RAD notice.
Mr. Gonzalez was the Development Manager of the Bridgeport Housing Authority where he managed all aspects of the redevelopment of a 400-unit site into a mixed-income, multi-site development. He was also responsible for the construction and financial closeout of a $16 million HUD Mixed-Finance development. Mr. Gonzalez started his career in affordable housing assisting not-for-profit developers on how to finance their projects using low-income, federal historic, and energy tax credits to raise equity for their projects. He also underwrote speculative multi-family investments in NYC and worked for celebrated architect Cesar Pelli, where he gained extensive experience in planning, building design and construction.
Mr. Gonzalez holds a Master of Real Estate Development from the W. P. Carey School of Business at Arizona State University and a Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Mendoza in Argentina. In addition, he is a certified Affordable Housing Development Finance Professional by the National Development Council and a Federal Procurement and Contract Management Specialist.
